Our practical focus is tempered by an understanding that architecture school is one of the best places to push boundaries, question established practices, and explore new territory—with a safety net. Graduate students are encouraged to attempt bold experiments in design, structures, and building systems with the understanding that failure often provides a greater learning experience than success. Our faculty is dedicated to helping students learn from both successes and failures.
The experience and expertise of teachers and guest reviewers is applied to help students understand that a group of professionals will often produce more than one solution to complex design problems. Developing professional judgment requires years of experience—we teach students how to learn from the inevitable mistakes along the way and begin to discern appropriate solutions.
We believe that to challenge conventions you must first understand them. The strong foundations established early in the program provide the necessary basis for students to explore new territory—with exciting results—in thesis and capstone studios. Our program assures that graduates leave with a solid understanding of where architecture is now and where it can go in the future.
