Employers regularly comment on the quality and enthusiasm of our M. Arch graduates. We strive to produce graduates who are not just well prepared, but are also excited about architecture. We accomplish this by letting our students focus their graduate-level studies on the area or areas of the profession that most interest them.
All M. Arch students are required to take a common core of architectural courses to assure they meet professional education standards established by the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB). For students in the 2-year graduate program, this core of courses includes 4 architectural design studios and courses in structural planning and professional practice. Students in the M. Arch (limited standing) program for students without a BSAS degree, take an accelerated version of the pre-professional undergraduate program, including introductory courses in design, building technology, structures, and architectural history.
M.Arch students are encouraged to focus on topics and issues that most interest them through the pre-designed options or independently developed option programs, elective courses, and joint-degree opportunities. Many students enrich their experiences by assisting faculty research, becoming involved with our community outreach programs, or studying internationally.
We've found that by allowing students to select their own focus we produce confident and well prepared graduates who are sought out by employers, prepared for the Architect's Registration Exam (ARE), and enthusiastic about their chosen career.
