Feel the Excitement

We’re a Big Ten university. Intercollegiate athletics are big, exciting, and frequently the topic of conversation in studio and between classes. Illinois is the home of the Homecoming tradition—thousands of alumni return to campus for Homecoming Week and the Homecoming football game every fall. Pride in all 19 of our winning teams is just another facet of the Illinois spirit. With 9 men’s and 10 women’s NCAA teams, all with demonstrated records of excellence in major conference competition, there’s sure to be an opportunity for you to join the crowd and cheer on Illinois.

It’s even possible to combine our rigorous undergraduate curriculum with NCAA athletic participation. We’ve had swimmers and basketball players excel in the pool, on the court, and in studio. You might sit next to a star athlete in class or you might be one.

Of course, quality athletic experiences are available to every Illinois student. We have facilities for racquetball and ice hockey, skydiving and water-skiing clubs, and outstanding recreational facilities (the most extensive of any American university). The Division of Campus Recreation runs intramural athletic clubs and teams from badminton to basketball, broomball to Ultimate Frisbee. Organize your own team, play with our chapter of AIAS (the American Institute of Architecture Students), or put your name on the intramural free agent list. Then get ready to play hard and have fun.

Win or lose, die-hard fans of the Fighting Illini turn out to enjoy football games in Memorial Stadium. Got Orange?
