Prepare for Success

Graduates of our architectural studies program go on to do many things. More than half choose to immediately earn a professional degree. Many students choose to continue in the highly-ranked M. Arch program at Illinois, but recent graduates have also gone on to study at other prestigious schools including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Michigan, and Berkeley. Many other students choose to gain practical experience and earn credit in the Intern Development Program (IDP) by working in an office environment before earning their professional degree. Still others find jobs in related-fields, including consulting, real estate, and construction management, or earn advanced degrees in art, business, or law.

The architectural studies program introduces students to problem-solving strategies that are valuable not only for future architects but also for a wide range of jobs. Our students learn how to develop solutions to complex problems by considering a range of social, cultural, political, and technological factors. In design studios, students learn to communicate complex ideas clearly through graphics, writing, and oral presentation.

By entering our program, you’ll join the Illinois architecture family, which includes more than 10,000 living alumni who work in architecture and a range of related fields. There are also more than 350,000 living University of Illinois alumni with whom you’ll share a special bond. A degree from the University of Illinois is highly respected and can open many doors, but it is the education you earn here that will truly prepare you for success.

The School’s annual CareerExpo attracts more than 40 top firms from across the Midwest. Many students find summer internships or full-time jobs through the CareerExpo or other services of the Placement Office.
