Get Involved

University of Illinois students have the opportunity to get involved with more than 1,000 registered student organizations (RSOs). With organizations dedicated to everything from water skiing to Kramer (the character from Seinfeld), there’s probably at least one organization that will meet your interests. If for some reason you can’t find an organization that you like, it’s easy to start a new one—it takes only 2 students to form a new RSO.

More than 10 student organizations exist within the School of Architecture. During the School’s recent accreditation, we were recognized for having some of the most active organizations of any architecture program in the country.

For the past 4 years, we've had the largest chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS); in 2002 our chapter hosted the organization’s national meeting, FORUM, in Chicago with great successs. Every spring, our chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students hosts a symposium dealing with some aspect of minority participation in the design professions. Through the Student Advisory Council, students have an active voice in the operation of the School and place representatives on a number of School committees. Other organizations focus on special interests in architectural history, business, structures, and sustainability.

Getting involved with a student organization is an great way to develop leadership skills that will impress employers. At Illinois, it’s easy to do. Our student organizations will help you make the most of your college experience by offering a network of support and a full calendar of special events.

Events like the Gargoyle Portfolio Workshop enrich the academic experience and help build a strong sense of community within the School.
