Architecture Computing: Student File Server
The School of Architecture maintains a file server (arch-students) for the exclusive use of its students. This server is accessible to students from school labs and from the studios. Home users can also connect (instructions are available).
How do I access my file space?
The easiest way is from a lab or studio machine. On these machines, your "My Documents" folder is automatically redirected to your server space, so when you open that folder on the desktop you will see the contents of your home directory.
There is also a mapped network drive (Z:/) which points to the logged in user's file space. This will appear under "My Computer".
There are also class folders for specific classes that require joint student file space. Groups can request also request space on the network. These folders can be accessed via the desktop link titled "Classes on arch-students".
Other network locations (such as the web server, etc.) can be accessed by the icon on the desktop named "Other servers".
How much stuff can I keep there?
At this writing, each Architecture student is allotted
a quota of 4 GB. In addition to these quotas, space is available
for special group, class, or studio projects. To request the creation
of a group folder, send an email to arch-computing@uiuc.edu.
