Printing Equipment

The School of Architecture maintains a wide variety of printing and plotting equipment for use by students, faculty, and staff. Our equipment ranges from black-and-white laser printers for text to 36-inch wide, full-color 600 dpi plotter for presentations and posters. Please see our guide to printing from your own computer.

314 Architecture Computer Lab

One HP LaserJet 5200 monochrome laser printer, capable of 600 dpi letter and tabloid size printing (Print Queue name = ARCH 314 LASER)

Two Hewlett Packard DesignJet 4000 PS color plotters, capable of 600 dpi and 36-inch wide output (Print Queue name = Arch 314 Colorplot Left + Arch 314 Colorplot Right)

One HP Color LaserJet 5550hdn laser printer, capable of 600 dpi, letter and tabloid size output, plus duplex printing (Print Queue name = Arch 314 ColorLaser)

One HP Inkjet, capable of letter and tabloid size printing (Print Queue name = Arch 314 Inkjet)

Hours: The 314 Architecture lab is open 24 hours per day, including breaks and holidays.

TBH Printing Center, Rm 20

Two HP DesignJet 4500ps color plotters with Stackers, capable of 600 dpi and 36-inch wide output (Print Queue name = TBH 20 ColorPlot Left PS3 + TBH 20 ColorPlot Right PS3)

Hours: During normal semester class days and weekends, the Print Center is open 24 hour per day to graduate students including breaks and holidays. Undergraduates have access to the lab during regular hours of 9am-5pm Monday- Friday, 12pm-5pm Saturday, and 12pm-9pm Sunday, excluding breaks and holidays.

Art East Annex Studio 1 Computer Lab, Rm 100

One HP LaserJet 5200 monochrome laser printer, capable of 600 dpi letter and tabloid size output, plus duplex printing (Print Queue name = Art Annex 100 Laser)

Hours: The 100 Annex lab is open 24 hours per day, including breaks and holidays.

Art East Annex Laser Cutting Lab

One Universal Laser Systems Laser Cutter V-460, 24x18 cutting area

Three Universal Laser Systems Laser Cutter X-660, 32x18 cutting area

Hours: By appointment only through the TRS reservation system.

Prices

The School of Architecture charges a small fee for most printing services. Prices are set based on ink, paper, and maintenance costs. All revenue from printing is used to purchase replacement printers, ink, and paper.

All printing must be paid for in advance. Each Architecture student has a printing "account" whose balance is automatically tracked by special software that controls the print queues. If insufficient funds are in your account to cover a print job, it will be deleted from the print queue. You may add money to your print account in the computer lab if you use the web-based credit card system . Checks must be payable to the University of Illinois and given to the Undergrad Office, 117 TBH.

* Plots will be measured and charged based on paper consumed, not printed area.

There is no discount or reimbursement for bringing your own special papers. Use of your own paper requires the presence and approval of a computer lab staff member.

Under no circumstances should you attempt to load your own paper into the plotters unaided by a computer lab staff member!
