What are the School's computing resources for students?
The main resources for students are the computers and printers in Labs 315 Architecture Building and 100 Art Annex, and the machines and printers in the studios. In addition to these fixed resources there are a number of items that are available for loan to students. For more detailed information regarding resources, visit our Labs and Printing sites or visit our Equipment Checkout site.

What's with all these passwords?
At the School of Architecture, we use the AD (Active Directory) password. This can be reset at a special web page maintained by CITES: http://accounts.ad.uiuc.edu. In order to change your AD password, you will need to know your NetID password. If you do not know what your NetID password is, you must go down to room 1211 of the Digital Computer Laboratory (1304 W. Springfield, across from the Grainger Engineering Library) to reset it. To use this password in the lab or studios, make sure that you have "UIUC" selected in the "Log in to" field of the Windows login box. If you want more details about passwords, visit www.arch.uiuc.edu/computing/passwords.
How much stuff can I store on the student file server?
The current quota of disk space for each Architecture student, regardless of year, is 4 Gigabytes. This quota may be increased if the user can make a compelling case for it. Additional space is also available for class/studio groups. To set up a class folder, or to enquire about your personal quota, please send email to arch-computing@uiuc.edu.
How do I report computer problems?
Report all problems with studio and lab machines by email to arch-computing@uiuc.edu or by contacting Debbie Brown at 333-1331. Please be as specific as possible when describing the problem, and be sure to mention the name of the computer and which room it is in.
My ID won't open a lock. To whom should I go for help?
You can enter your i-Card number into our lock database automatically at https://www.arch.uiuc.edu/tbhlocks/Login.aspx
Who decides which computers go to which studios?
This is the last year that computers will be provided to studios. Only senior studios will receive computers this year. All other students are expected to provide their own computers (laptops.)
How do I check out items like digital cameras, laptops, or projectors?
Before you can check out equipment, you must first reserve it using the School's Technology Reservations System (TRS), which is located on the web at https://web-s.arch.uiuc.edu/trs. Once you have reserved the equipment, you may pick it up from Marsha Fleming in room 4W of the Architecture Building (also the duplicating office) at the appointed time.
How do I get more ink for the inkjet printer in my studio?
Inkjet printers are no longer provided to the studios.
How can I tell what my current printing balance is?
In the lower right-hand side of the screen on lab and studio machines is a small dollar sign ($) icon. When logged in to one of these machines, hold the mouse pointer over this dollar sign and it will tell you what your current balance is. If parenthesis appear around your balance, that signifies a negative balance.
How can I add funds to my printing account?
You can use a Visa or MasterCard at our print account web site, which you can do 24/7. The added credit will be added to your account within 3 minutes. An alternative is to write a check to "University of Illinois" and bring it to room 117 TBH (Undergrad office).
How do I get a refund on unused printing funds when I graduate?
We can issue refunds on balances greater than $10.00. To get a refund, send your name, complete mailing address, and SSN in an email to arch-computing@uiuc.edu. You should receive a check within 4-6 weeks, depending on how fast the wheels of the University bureaucracy turn. You can also ask us to transfer your balance to another student if you like; just send the netid of the lucky winner to arch-printing@uiuc.edu.
How can I bring in my computer from home and put it on the network in my studio?
You are welcome to bring in your personal machine and install it in your studio. If you have an ethernet card your machine can also be placed on the network so that you may access the various network services that the School and the University provide. To have network privileges for a personally-owned machine, you must submit the Application for Student Network Connectivity. Within a week you will receive an email confirmation that your computer has been assigned an IP address and will now function on the network. Your computer must be set to automatically receive security patches and have up-to-date anti-virus software installed.
How can I print from my personal computer that I brought into studio?
See the instructions here: Adding Printers
How do I access my server space from home (non-Architecture locations)?
You must use the VPN software available from Cites (for free) to do this. Instructions are available at www.arch.uiuc.edu/computing/remote/.
