International Traveling Awards / Fellowships

All applications and proposals for study during international travel are due in 117 Architecture Building by 5:00 PM on Wednesday January 19, 2005. Public recognition of travel awards will be made at the Annual Architecture Awards banquet in April 2005. Award winners will be notified by the Director's office no later than February 10, 2005 to allow sufficient time for travel plans.

Ashby, David Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student(s) who will be going to Versailles and returning to campus for their senior year. This year the School will award two $1500 or three $1000 awards. These awards are based on financial need of Versailles bound students. Versailles bound students should apply in Room 117 Architecture Building. Please contact Rhonda Frank for application details.

Bauhs , William B. Memorial Fund

Awarded to a student(s) who will be studying in a study abroad program and returning to the UI after travel. Intended specifically for a student who otherwise might not be able to go. Preference is given to the China program. There isn't a China program this year, so the School will award one $1000 scholarship to a Versailles bound student. The International Study Committee and the Associate Director for Undergraduate study and Administrative Affairs will determine this award based on financial need. Versailles bound students should apply in Room 117 Architecture Building. Please contact Rhonda Frank for application details.

Councell, Charles Clemens Memorial Scholars

Awarded for academic merit and demonstrated potential. For students who have been selected to participate in the Versailles program. In FY05 the School will award a minimum of ten and a maximum of fifteen $1000 scholarships. These awards are selected on the basis of academic merit by the International Study Committee and the Associate Director for Undergraduate Study and Administrative Affairs. Versailles bound students should apply in Room 117 Architecture Building. Please contact Rhonda Frank for application details.

Long, Frank B. and Jennie M. Long Traveling Awards

These awards are available to send worthy students abroad to study architecture. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Students submit proposals of their intended study during their travel time. This travel may be independent or study abroad in a school sponsored program, such as Versailles, Rome, Munich, etc. This year there will be nine $1000 awards. Selection is made by the International Study Committee and the Associate Director for Undergraduate Study and Administrative Affairs on the basis of the student's proposal for study, academic record and demonstrated leadership.

Philippson, E. Benno Traveling Award in Architecture

Supplemental funding for students who are traveling and studying new or previously studied key buildings and monuments which might otherwise not have been seen. The student will be participating in a study abroad program in China, Munich, Rome, Versailles, or independent study. One award at $500, to be determined by the International Study Committee and the Associate Director for Undergraduate Study and Administrative Affairs.

Pigozzi, Raymond A. Award

For students who will be enrolling in an international summer program. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. Students submit proposals of their intended study during their travel time. This travel may be independent or study abroad in a school sponsored program, such as Versailles, Rome, Munich, etc. This year there will be one $1500 award. Selection is made by the International Study Committee and the Associate Director for Undergraduate Study and Administrative Affairs on the basis of the student's proposal for study, academic record and demonstrated leadership.

Ryerson, Edward L. Traveling Fellowship

For 2 to 3 month's summer travel/study abroad. Doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. Students submit proposals of study during travel. This travel may be independent or study abroad in a school sponsored program, such as Versailles, Rome, Munich, etc. Students must complete the fellowship travel the summer following notification of the award. Students prepare a report during the fall semester after they return and may be invited to give a public presentation of their travel experience. This year up to $25,000 in fellowships ranging from $4000-$7000 will be awarded. Selection is made by the International Study Committee, the Associate Directors and the Director on the basis of the student's proposal for study, academic record and demonstrated leadership.
