Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, the School is able to offer an exceptional number of fellowships, scholarships, medals, prizes and awards to entering and continuing students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. These awards recognize excellence in artistic, technical and scholarly aspects of the discipline and service to the school or the profession. In 1873 Nathan Clifford Ricker graduated from the University of Illinois with the first degree in architecture granted by an American University. After studying in Europe, he returned to the University to formally establish a Department of Architecture.
