Minimum GPA Requirement: The School of Architecture requires a minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for full standing as a graduate student in the School.  Students who have an overall GPA below the minimum 3.0 at the end of any semester of enrollment will go on probation. Once a student has been placed on probation, he or she will have one semester in which to raise his/ her overall GPA to the minimum 3.0 required. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the Graduate College.

The School of Architecture may take factors other than satisfactory grades into consideration in determining qualifications for advanced degrees.  While an adequate GPA is a minimum requirement, GPA's of 3.0 or higher do not necessarily ensure continuation in the graduate degree program. As indicated in Chapter III of the Handbook for Graduate Students and Advisors, the School may keep records of deferred grades, as well as written evaluations by instructors. These factors, along with other skills and aptitudes, may be considered in determining satisfactory progress and in decisions to permit students to continue in master's and doctoral degree programs.

Minimum Passing Grade:  The minimum passing grade in all required graduate courses in the students' degree program is C (C- if +/- grading system is used).  Graduate students receiving a grade below this threshold in their required graduate courses must repeat the course until an acceptable passing grade is earned in the course.

Repeated Courses:  In cases when a graduate student repeats a course voluntarily or in order to earn a passing grade as described in the Minimum Passing Grade section above, existing Graduate College policies will be used in calculating the student's GPA.
