Students in architecture apply their knowledge of history, structures, building technology, and design theory in the studio. Students in each of the graduate options prepare a capstone project grounded in the specialized focus of their program and demonstrating a broad understanding of the planning, design, and construction process. Among the faculty are talented artists and practitioners. Work by alumni, especially recent graduates, including projects drawn from the School's archives is also presented.

In 1873 Nathan Clifford Ricker graduated from the University of Illinois with the first degree in architecture granted by an American University. After studying in Europe, he returned to the University to formally establish a Department of Architecture.
