BIO:
Simon Rees is an Associate Principal and leader of Arup’s Structural Engineering Practice in the Los Angeles Office. In his eighteen years of experience he has led structural and multi-disciplinary teams on projects as diverse as industrial facilities, laboratories, airports, high-rise corporate headquarters, museums, bridges and lightweight structures. The scope of design on these projects extends from assessment and renovation of existing buildings through new construction. Notable recent projects include leading the engineering design for the Broad Contemporary Art Museum and Resnick Pavilion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and seismic base isolation design for the Taipei Performing Arts Center. Simon’s interests are currently focused on innovation in building engineering design through computational technology and automation.

Simon has been a guest lecturer and critic at universities including USC, UCLA and Sci-Arc, and has published numerous papers on the subjects of Seismic design and Sustainable structural design. Simon is a graduate of Cambridge University where he earned an MEng in Engineering Science.
