Assistant Professor Kevin Erickson receives Honorable Mention in competition:
Assistant Professor Kevin Erickson of the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign’s School of Architecture, and Principal of KNEstudio
New York NY + Champaign IL, received honorable mention in the Tokyo 2010
Fashion Museum in Omotesando Street Competition sponsored by Arquitectum.
Of the 506 entries, his entry was the only North American submission to
place it the top 12 positions. Erickson’s proposal
challenges if an icon can exist if nobody can see it. In Tokyo,
Omotesando signifies a location where the most avant-garde fashion and
architecture converge. INVISIBLE ICON asks the question of whether a museum dedicated to
fashion must compete with it. The competition jury was comprised of
Franois Blanciak (France) - Jury President, Architect and Research
Fellow at the University of Tokyo; Julian Worrall (Australia) Architect
and Writer based in Tokyo; Ryoji Suzuki (Japan) Architect and Director
of Art & Architecture School, Waseda University;
Yoshiaki Akasaka (Japan) Architect and Professor,
Art & Architecture School, Waseda University; and Yosuke Hayano (Japan)
Principal, MAD Beijing and Visiting Lecturer, Art & Architecture School,
Waseda University. In April projects will exhibited at Waseda University
in Tokyo and a publication is scheduled to follow.
