The Dean F. and Avis E. Hilfinger Faculty Fellowship in Architecture
The School of Architecture is conducting a search for the Hilfinger Fellowship. The fellowship stipulations note that the Hilfinger should be an individual who has an interest in architectural education with an emphasis on structures of buildings and who would bridge practice and education. The School believes this could be an individual who is also interested in combining teaching with practice.
The Fellowship is open to practicing professionals who hold a professional degree in architecture, are licensed to practice architecture and who have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in the practice of architecture with an emphasis on the structures of buildings. The individual may also be a licensed structural engineer. Fellows are expected to spend one year in residence, beginning in the spring semester and continuing through the fall semester. Fellows are expected each semester to teach one course in structures, deliver a public lecture and participate in public reviews. Fellows are encouraged to pursue research interests in architecture and related engineering disciplines. Faculty Fellows shall be known as "The Dean F. and Avis E. Hilfinger Faculty Fellows in Architecture" and shall be appropriately recognized and publicized.
The position is a full time position at $55,000 plus travel expenses, beginning in the fall semester and continuing into the spring semester, or spring & fall semester back-to-back. One or two half-time positions could be offered. Also, half-time positions could maintain a limited professional practice while teaching. Individuals holding the full-time position would be expected to be in residence on the Champaign-Urbana campus.
We would expect Hilfinger Fellows to begin teaching Structures courses this fall 2008 or spring 2009. We will begin reviewing candidates for the position April 1, 2008.
