URBANA – Robert P. Link, 87, of Urbana died the afternoon of May 29, 2007, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
He was born March 14, 1920, in Springfield, the son of Frank M. and Rose (Kloppenburg) Link. He graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield College in Illinois and the University of Illinois. He received a bachelor's in science and BS and MS degrees in architecture. He served as a Navy ensign during World War II. Following his discharge, he joined the faculty of the University of Illinois, Urbana, in the School of Architecture, where he served for over 40 years and became the associate dean of architecture. Upon retirement in 1983, he became the dean of architecture at the University of Illinois Extension in Versailles, France. Following his second retirement, he pursued and met his goal of traveling to all the continents.
He married Helen Howard of Farmer City in 1945; she preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother, Joseph V. Link of Springfield; two sisters, Bernadine Hladick and husband, William, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Rita Franke and husband, Allyn, of Deerfield; a sister-in-law, Jean Howard of Crystal Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana. Following the celebration, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the St. Patrick's Church parish center.
