Interim Director Michael Andrejasich Receives AIAS National Honor Award

Professor Michael Andrejasich, Interim Director of the School of Architecture, was formally recognized as an outstanding educator by the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) during their national meeting in Austin, Texas on December 31, 2003. Professor Andrejasich was nominated for the 2003 National Honor Awards by members of AIAS Illinois, which is the largest chapter in the nation.

The announcement of the award jury was:

Professor Mike Andrejasich, who is also the Interim Director of Architecture, was nominated by 2002-2003 AIAS UIUC Chapter President David J. Lillie. “He has worked diligently to educate the public on the virtues of architecture and the environment through the East St. Louis Action Research Project (ESLARP) and Habitat for Humanity,” says David J. Lillie. Professor Andrejasich is credited for improving the schools ranking in the Greenway Consulting annual rating of architecture schools, which is based on practicing architects’ opinions of the caliber of student each institution graduates. “He has given us his insight into what the AIAS should mean to students and why we should strive to make it a useful and appreciated organization on campus. His helpfulness and leadership have driven us to make the AIAS UIUC the largest student organization not only in the School of Architecture, but the entire campus,” said Mark Santa Maria, UIUC AIAS Vice President.
