David E. Eckmann SE, PE, AIA

David Eckmann is the Managing Principal of Magnusson Klemencic Associate’s Chicago office; an award winning structural and civil engineering firm with projects in 46 states and 46 countries. David is a graduate from the University of Illinois School of Architecture with a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in architecture, specialized in structural engineering. He is a licensed structural engineer, professional engineer, and architect. David has made significant contributions to many unique and award-winning projects, including:

  • The Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters project

  • The Aqua Tower at Lakeshore East

  • The Boeing Headquarters in Chicago

  • The International Terminal at O’Hare Airport

  • The University of Chicago Ratner Athletics Center.

David is also a recipient of the distinguished University of Illinois School of Architecture Francis J. Plym Traveling Fellowship. David is a leader in the architectural and engineering community, serving on many professional committees including:

  • Past-Chairman of the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings and

  • Steel Conference (NASCC) Planning Committee

  • University of Illinois Structural Engineering Conference Advisory Board

  • University of Illinois Tang Committee.

He is also a member of:

  • The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI)

  • American Institute of Architects (AIA)

David is a frequent public speaker and has been published on multiple occasions, particularly on topics related to innovative collaborations between architects and engineers, and the creative use of building materials.
