Tillett Lighting Design Inc. crafts highly nuanced lighting programs. Founded in 1983, it has a reputation for artistry, technical innovation and functionality. Winner of multiple design awards, Tillett Design was recently awarded the Excellence in Design Award for 2010 from the Public Design Commission of the City of New York.

Founder/Principal Linnaea Tillett holds a doctorate in environmental psychology. Her innovative approach incorporates a thorough understanding of the perceptual, behavioral and psychological effects of light. She has extensive experience in lighting landscape, infrastructure, architecture, public art, luxury interiors, and fine art.

Tillett Lighting Design has collaborated with leading architects and landscape architects—including Maya Lin, Toshiko Mori, Beyer Blinder Belle, Michael Van Valkenburgh, Olin Studio, Quennell Rothschild, and Lebbeus Woods—as well as artist Kiki Smith. Work of the firm has been the focus of dozens of critical reviews in the design press, as well as scholarly publications and lectures, including
Sense of the City: An Alternative Approach to Urbanism (2005), published by Canadian Center for Architecture, and “Ecliptic Park: Public Art as Urban Revitalization” by Linnaea Tillett and Kate Gardner, for Professional Lighting Design (2003).
