Now in its 30th year, the firm founded by Don Powell and Bob Kleinschmidt continues to be a standard bearer of a seemingly timeless modernism. Although perhaps more widely recognized for its commercial work, this firm also designs significant and beautifully realized residential interiors, often in the city's landmark structures. It lavishes care and thought on every detail, from the incorporation of sufficient fabric to warm up the space and absorb the city sounds, to selecting the most elegant hardware, to designing custom radiator covers that integrate seamlessly into the overall décor. The firm has designed minimalist, modern collection of furniture which they often incorporate into their designs. Current projects include the redesign of the residential floors of the John Hancock Center, in Chicago.

During his 41 years as an accomplished interior architect, he has gained an intimate knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture and furniture systems, carpeting, fabrics and lighting. His unique ability to bridge functional systems with the art of design has been an extremely important and much renowned contribution to the firm.
