James L. Cutler FAIA is a Registered Architect in Washington , Alaska , New York , Hawaii and Tennessee . He has a Master of Architecture degree from the Louis I. Kahn Studio program and both Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

Jim has lived on Bainbridge Island since 1974 and is a founding Board member of the Bainbridge Island Land Trust. He has four daughters.

Established in 1977, Cutler Anderson Architects (formerly James Cutler Architects) is nationally known for its environmental awareness and attention to detail. Dedicated to design excellence, the firm has received six National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects and over 40 other national and regional awards.

Cutler Anderson Architects is currently involved in many projects both nationally and internationally, including residences in Mallorca, Spain, the Napa Valley, California, the Hudson River Valley in New York, the Big Island of Hawaii, Memphis, Tennessee and commercial and mixed use projects in the Puget Sound area of Washington state.

Jim has served as a juror for several regional and national competitions and has held teaching positions at the University of Washington, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Oregon in Eugene, Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, University of California, Berkeley and the University of Oklahoma.

Jim was chosen "Artist in Residence" at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire for Spring Quarter 2004. In August of 2005, Jim served as Chair and hosted the AIA Central States Region Design Awards jury.
